MEETING MINUTES
EVARA FIELD DAY, JUNE 23, 2007

The Estancia Valley Amateur Radio Association "sort of" participated in Field Day for June, 2007.  We'll explain "sort of" a bit later.  EVARA set up on in Moriarty City Park, Moriarty, New Mexico, at roughly 9:30 AM local time, to get on the air and have some fun.   And that is what we did!

Our club callsign, NM5EV, was used for FD, while W5HTW was used for the GOTA station.

Here Bob Ayre, N5LVR (sitting) and GlenOverlander, KD5BP, checking the cooler, are waiting for the next DX!

Daniel Starks, KD7UFS, is working HF SSB as well as both VHF and UHF, cool in the shade, as we were setting up early for the June 2007 Field Day.  This was Daniel's first.  He says he learned a lot!

Above, Joel Lockwood, KJ5EY is busily chasing. ... (something) -- At least we didn't have a fly or bug problem, so maybe it really was some exotic station.  He was working 15 meter SSB

On the right above, Georgia Overlander, N5GOY, is explaining to Cheryl, a guest who is very interested in amateur radio, why we do this.  Or maybe how we do this.  Or why we should not do this?  Or, does anyone with any sense do this?

Cheryl listens attentively, to Georgia pointing out the technical details of amateur radio repeaters.  On the other hand, Cheryl is probably thinking, "Yeah, right.  You guys are nuts.  But I'll play along.  I may even pretend to be nuts, too, so I can get out of here safely."

Two hours later and Joel still hasn't moved.  But he has worked a lot of contacts.

The GOTA (Get On The Air) station, operated under the call sign W5HTW.

As in the past, EVARA has participated only slightly in Field Day.  Our goal is not to be in a contest, but to have fun, socialize, and display amateur radio to those who may drop by and want to know more.  This was our third Field day as a club.  For this one we participated only on Saturday, from around 10 AM, for a couple of hours before it started, to about 4 PM.  We did not return on Sunday.  And as normal for us, we did more sitting around and talking than actual on-air operating.  For us, Field Day is just a way to get together over some ham gear, some soft drinks, a sandwich or two, and meet some new people.   And that is what we did!

Ed, W5HTW, secretary of EVARA and trustee of the club license.
